How Much Will It Cost?

Please contact me to discuss the cost of your case. My fees are very reasonable and transparent, and I accept payment plans. The cost of expenses depends on the length of the trial and the nature of the appeal. Usually the main expense is obtaining transcripts: the appeal Court requires that every word spoken at trial be reproduced. Some applications, such as the admission of fresh evidence, may also represent a significant cost, depending on its nature. Rest assured, no significant expense will be undertaken without your prior approval.

Do You Accept Legal Aid?

Yes! I give my legally aided clients the same hard work and experienced dedication. Legal Aid approaches appeals as a two-step process. They will first issue a certificate for an opinion on the merits of your appeal. I am experienced in writing those opinions. The opinion then goes to the Area Committee of Legal Aid for a decision on whether to fund the appeal itself, in which case a full certificate is issued. DO NOT WAIT for a decision from Legal Aid before filing a Notice of Appeal.

I Filed an Inmate Appeal. Can I Still Get a Lawyer?

Yes, once you hire me, either privately or through Legal Aid, I can convert the appeal to a “solicitor appeal”. You will then no longer have to appear in court.

How Long Does an Appeal Take?

The complexity of the appeal issues, the length of the trial, the level of the trial court and whether fresh evidence is being obtained all help determine how long an appeal might take. The simplest appeal might be resolved in 3 months. A complicated murder appeal, for example, might take 2 or 3 years.
